Top Irish Websites – February 2010

by Barry

With Google’s Ad Planner now updated under the Double Click brand, I’m looking forward to improvements to the traffic estimations. I’ve updated and exported a list of over 4,000 websites receiving traffic from Ireland.

There’s now 3 months of traffic estimates available above, which make it useful to do some analysis. What I use this for is part of an overall traffic industry analysis and to give an insight into competitor analysis.

Here’s a really quick example, using DoneDeal.ie. Irish traffic estimated from Ad Planner at Dec – 180k, Jan – 240k and Feb – 260k which is an increase of Jan +33% and Feb +8.3%. This very closely ties in with their published data of overall site traffic of Jan +32.3% and Feb +4.9%

I know what you’re thinking, the site traffic UV numbers look way off, and to be honest they are – but that’s only really relevant when calculating an initial base UV number for competitor analysis. If I was a competitor to DoneDeal, I’d have access to my own website’s traffic stats and can compare those using Ad Planner to see growth comparisons between both websites, as well as analysing all websites in that market.

I'd LOVE if you shared this:

Hi, Barry. In Ad Planner, under ranking method, use “composite index” to narrow your results to more targeted Irish sites. I'm also getting ready to put up a YouTube video today on another method for finding sites at YouTube.com/ShelleyEllis and did a whole series of training on all kinds of creative ways for finding top sites for managed placement strategies (or direct advertising as well). ~Shelley

Hiya Shelley, thanks for dropping by. I'm trying to wrangle overall country traffic stats rather than target an actual campaign.

Unfortunately we don't have any Hitwise equivalent here in Ireland, so this is a little experiment to see if any meaningful insight can be gained.

    hi Barry,
I have been looking at this and need it for a report. Do you have any more updated than Feb 2010. I can not figure out how to do it myself yet.

Hi Aisling, I'm going to run something more recent shortly. I'll drop you a quick message.
