The beeb have added banner ads for internation visitors, tapping into the onsite advertising market. This site is one of the most popular in the world with an Alexa traffic rank of: 47

This is major news, as readers of the site, and those who watch their tv stations have never been subjected to external advertising. BBC are funded by UK licence payers, and as such those inside the UK will not be able to view the advertisements (30% of total site traffic is from UK)

bbc BBC.co.uk now has banner ads!

Why won’t users in the UK see any ads?

Users in the UK fund the BBC through the licence fee, which entitles them to view and listen to all of the BBC’s television, radio and digital services without advertising. The inclusion of advertising on the website when viewed from outside the UK will create revenues which can be used to develop better content and services for both UK and international users.

The same technology that stops me listening to Five Live as well icon smile BBC.co.uk now has banner ads!

With only 30.2% of the sites traffic coming from the UK, that lives a huge amount of advertising possibilities…

The majority viewers suffer the bad syntax, language, content, communist sicko, simply because its quick to load. Now you effed that up too. Fox News – Irish?! – is a way better bet at least its not totally Cubanesque. Seriously – get rid of all the lame-brain whack jobs & blogger waste of timers & go modern. I must add that I never see BBC Top Gear or any of your stuff globally any more, unless I am in some Walt Disney Hilton type of scenario. None of the beach resorts & islands I visit have it. They used to. Today I just canceled all my BBC alerts, did that to CNN a long time back. Pity. Oh Well – there goes the British Empire further down the tubes – at least you are not wearing turbans or dresses – yet!!
